Autograph letter signed by Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut, Roger Sherman, to John Lawrence. In full: "Please to pay to Mr. Joseph Peck three pounds three shillings on account of what is due on my debentures in your hands." Creasing from old folds, scattered light foxing. In mat and in frame with printed images of Trumbull's Declaration of Independence, and founding documents of America. Lot includes a letter of authenticity, issued by JSA.

Four days before the beginning of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, founding father Roger Sherman (1721-1793) pens a payment order to Connecticut state treasurer John Lawrence (1719-1802).

Sherman was one of the most influential members of the 1787 Constitutional Convention, and was instrumental in the adoption of the Connecticut Compromise, which settled the issue of representation of states in the proposed bicameral legislature. When he signed the U.S. Constitution at the conclusion of the convention, he made history by becoming the only individual to sign the four great state papers: the Continental Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.
