For an official of first to third rank, embroidered in white silk with two flying cranes holding in their beaks the stem of red pulloch'o above colored waves and surrounded by colored clouds.

M. Lee Smith has been a passionate collector of Chinese antiques for more than 30 years with a special focus on Qing dynasty textiles. His collection of Rank Badges (Buzi) encompasses such weaving and embroidery techniques as, Brocade and Kesi, and Satin and Peking stitches. Notably, all Civil ranks are represented within his collection of Buzi, in addition to several Military ranks. His collection of Robes covers both men’s and women’s Court Robes, and, like his badges, reflects his desire to showcase a variety of needlework techniques. His collection was acquired from other Chinese textile collectors and well-known auction houses.
